Theatre by Elmer G. Wiens

I love acting. I have often worked on Television and Movie Productions in Vancouver. Most of all, I enjoy acting in theatre productions.

In 1994, I acted in my own play, Critical Paths, presented at the Vancouver Fringe Theatre Festival by Vancouver Actors' Theatre.

In 2000, I took Dr. Peter Dickinson's English 206 Drama/Theatre Course, where my class group, the Barn Door Players, presented Eugene O'Neill's play, Desire Under the Elms.

In my paper, "Grave Suggestibility," I compare the two seduction scenes from the plays, Otthello and The Children's Hour, argue that the scenes are homoerotic, and explain why the seductions are successful by examining the circumstances under which they occur, even though both Othello and Amelia struggle against being deceived by their predator.

In my paper, "Say Yes to Sex," I to adapt into screenplays scenes from the first half of Act II of Anton Checkov's Three Sisters and Act I Scene 4 of Wendy Wasserstein's Sisters Rosensweig. While a stage play is built on dialogue, a screenplay deals with pictures. Although each adaptation is more visual, I keep much of the original dialogue. To increase the appeal to a contemporary audience, I increase the "eroticism" of each scene, while remaining true to the integrity of the author's intent in each play.
